Intro to Discriminant Scent Trailing

A 6 week course designed for handler and canine teams to learn about Discriminant Scent Trailing.

• 6 weeks
• Weekly, 75 minute sessions
• Introduce + train dogs and handlers in foundational Discriminant Scent Trailing concepts and techniques
• Basics of "reading" your dog
• Working in rural environments
• Weekly recaps and homework reminders via email.

Prerequisites: N/A

Intermediate to Discriminant Scent Trailing

A 6 week course designed to build on foundational concepts learned in the Intro to Discriminant Scent Trailing course.

Handlers and canines are introduced to new environments and more complex scenarios.

  • 6 weeks

  • 75 minute sessions

  • Introduce and train canines and handlers in urban environments.

  • Increasing the complexities present in environments.

  • Continued learning in handler skills & reading your dog.

  • Reinforcement of already trained behaviours while introducing new concepts and techniques

  • Weekly recaps and homework reminders via email.

Prerequisites: Intro to Discriminant Scent Trailing

Advanced: Discriminant Scent Trailing (Sporting)

An eight week course designed to further handler and canine's learning
and proficiency in Discriminant Scent Trailing in a fun and re
creational way.

  • 8 weeks

  • Weekly 75 minute sessions

  • Introduce and training in complex and multi-faceted scenarios that test handlers' and canines' skills.

  • Already learned behaviours reinforcement for handlers and canines.

  • Teams will learn to be proficient and confident in combination rural and urban environments

  • Continued learning in Advanced concepts and techniques necessary for Discriminant Scent Trailing team success

  • Weekly recaps and homework reminders via email.

Prerequisites: Intro and Intermediate Discriminant Scent Trailing courses

Advanced: Discriminant Scent Trailing (Professional)

A twelve week course designed for those dogs and handlers invited, and who wish to be, a part of the True North canine Scent Trailing working team.

  • 12 weeks

  • Weekly 90 minute sessions

  • Professional development modules designed to ensure True North Canine Scent Trailing's working handlers are proficient in Trauma Informed Care, First Aid and Advanced Canine wellness

  • Training and testing in complex and multi-faceted environments and scenarios

  • Skill + technique advancement while ensuring competent and well-rounded working teams

  • Master the skill of successfully trailing through the combinations and complexities of rural and urban environments

  • Becoming proficient in skill and technique in order to be prepared for any novel scenario the team may encounter

  • General skill refinement

  • In person feedback, video review of homework and personalized programs to support working teams to being successful.

  • Discriminant Scent Trailing Drop-ins

    • These drop-ins are available to handlers and canines to have
      opportunities to work on skills.

Prerequisites: Intro and Intermediate Discriminant Scent Trailing courses; up to date background check; canine and handler physical and mental literacy testing.

Private Discriminant Scent Trailing

This course is designed to accommodate dogs who may need a little more space or individuals with the desire to advance in Discrimiannt Scent Trailing.

This course is based on an individual's goals for themselves and their dogs.

Already Trained Canines

True North canine Scent Trailing also offers the service of providing already trained canines. Each dog is trained to the highest standard of socialization and job proficiency.
